What Counts as Medium Voltage
Above 1000 V you do not have to touch anything to be hurt. The voltage can break down an air gap and start an arc before a tool, a ladder or a hand reaches the conductor, and the arc keeps burning until a protective device clears it.
The 1-35 kV band used in this course is a naming convention, not a legal boundary. ANSI C84.1 itself calls everything from 1000 V up to 100 kV medium voltage, so when a procedure, a permit or a standard gives you a voltage threshold, use the number written in that document.
