Definition and Purpose

A Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) is a mechanical device used to provide temporary access for people or equipment to elevated areas.

MEWPs are designed for safe, efficient work at height, especially in construction, utilities, and warehousing.

They are not permanent structures — just temporary access tools.

Key Characteristics of MEWPs

Vertical and horizontal reach (depending on type)
Built-in fall protection (guardrails, harness attachment points)
Mobility: self-propelled, towable, or vehicle-mounted

They are not intended for transport — only to move workers into position.

Why MEWPs Are Important
