Fall Protection — poster
Falls are the #1 killer in construction. Most victims were experienced workers doing routine tasks — the day they skipped tying off. This talk is a 5-minute reset before anyone leaves the ground.
OSHA requires fall protection at 6 ft in construction (4 ft in general industry). If you can fall to a lower level, you need guardrails, a personal fall arrest system, or a safety net. “Just a minute up there” is how fatalities start.
Snug shoulder and leg straps, chest strap at mid-chest, D-ring between the shoulder blades. A loose harness can cause serious internal injury in a fall — or let you slip out headfirst.
Tie off to an anchor rated 5,000 lbs per worker or one designed by a qualified person. Guardrails, conduit, and rebar are NOT anchor points.
Anchor directly above you when possible. Calculate total fall distance: lanyard length + deceleration + your height + safety margin. A 6-ft lanyard doesn't help at 10 ft off the ground.
