Hand & Power Tool Safety — poster
Tool injuries look small until they're yours: severed tendons, lost fingers, eye injuries. Most happen with tools we've used a thousand times — familiarity is the hazard, because that's when we stop looking.
Cracked handles, dull blades, frayed cords, missing guards = tag it out. A dull blade is more dangerous than a sharp one — it forces you to push harder.
Guards are removed by exactly one kind of worker: the kind who gets hurt. If the guard blocks the task, you have the wrong tool, not an unnecessary guard.
Screwdrivers aren't chisels; wrenches aren't hammers. Cheater bars and improvised handles break loose at the worst moment.
Cut away from your body. Keep the off-hand out of the cut path. Disconnect power before changing blades or bits — and let spinning tools stop before setting them down.
