PPE doesn't prevent accidents — it decides how badly they hurt you. It's the LAST line of defense, after engineering and safe procedures. And it only works if it's on, fits, and is in good shape.
Protects against falling objects and electrical contact. Inspect the shell and suspension for cracks; replace after any significant impact — damage can be invisible. No stickers over cracks, no reversed wear unless rated.
Safety glasses always on active sites; goggles for dust and chemicals; face shield OVER glasses for grinding and cutting. Flying particles cause 2,000 eye injuries a day in US workplaces.
85 dB average (a loud saw) requires protection. If you have to shout at arm's length, it's too loud. Hearing loss is permanent, painless, and adds up shift by shift.
Match the glove to the task: cut-resistant for blades and sheet metal, insulated for electrical, chemical-resistant for solvents. Safety-toe boots with intact soles — check for embedded nails and worn tread.
