Respiratory Protection — poster
You can dodge a falling object; you can't dodge the air. Dust, welding fume, solvent vapors, and oxygen-poor spaces hurt you from the inside — sometimes in minutes, sometimes over 20 years.
Different hazards, different protection: N95 for most dusts, cartridges matched to specific vapors, supplied air where filters can't help. The SDS tells you what a product puts in the air.
A respirator that leaks around the seal filters nothing. Fit-testing is required annually; facial hair where the mask seals is a no — even heavy stubble cuts protection drastically.
Straps elastic, valves clean, cartridges within service life, no cracks. Positive/negative pressure check every time you don it: cover, breathe, feel for leaks.
Cartridge respirators only clean the air that's there. Low-oxygen or unknown atmospheres (tanks, vaults, manholes) need supplied air and confined-space procedures — no exceptions.
