Tower technician training requirements

What a tower climber needs before the first climb: the training OSHA and the FCC require outright, the cards contractors ask for on top, and the parts no online course can give you.

Training the rules spell out. The citation is next to each one — look it up, it’s all public.
Fall protection
OSHA 1926.503, 1910.268(g)Required before anyone works exposed to a fall. Your employer still owes you hands-on training on the harness and lanyards you’ll actually wear.
RF awareness
FCC 47 CFR 1.1310, OSHA 1910.97Anyone working near live antennas above public exposure limits has to know the exposure is there and how to control it.
First aid & CPR
OSHA 1910.268(c)(3), 1910.151(b)The telecom standard lists first-aid training among what employers must provide, and with no clinic nearby OSHA wants a trained first-aider on hand.
PPE training

Hazard communication (GHS)

Rigging on communication structures

TTT-1 (Telecommunications Tower Technician 1)
NWSA credentialThe industry’s own climber credential, and some contractors list it in job posts. Our course is independent exam prep — the credential comes from the NWSA proctored exam.

What an online course won’t give you
You’ll need these too. We don’t sell them, and we’d rather you hear it here.
Competent climber & tower rescue
Hands-on, on a structure, with a trainer watching you climb and run a rescue. Nobody can legitimately teach it online — we don’t try.
OSHA 10 / OSHA 30 card
The DOL wallet card comes only from an OSHA-authorized Outreach trainer. We don’t issue it, and no course here replaces it.
