Among tower crews Verizon is known as the softest of the big three on gate enforcement. That reputation is earned — and it is also how crews get complacent and then lose a morning when a stricter market or a thorough GC decides to actually check the binder.
The package is the same — the enforcement varies
Verizon work rides on the same universal certification package as AT&T and T-Mobile:
- RF awareness for every worker — even relaxed markets check this one; it is the least skippable certificate in telecom.
- Competent climber and competent rigger coverage at 50 %+ of the crew for at-height and rigging scopes.
- First aid/CPR on half the crew, hazcom + battery + capstan at the same ratio.
- Crane signal when a crane is on site, and electrical qualification for power work.
The difference is variance: some Verizon markets wave crews through on a verbal, others audit like AT&T. Preparing for the strict version costs you nothing extra when the check is light; preparing for the light version costs you a crew-day when the check is strict.

The Verizon quirk: app-based check-in
Verizon runs its site check-in through its own app, and that catches first-timers: the crew arrives, the certificates are fine, but nobody set up app access in advance. Add the app enrollment to your day-minus-one checklist alongside the tower owner login and the GC log — the full three-login pattern is broken down in the 3 logins every crew needs.
Mount analysis still applies
Verizon requires mount analysis on loading changes like the other two carriers. Verify the paperwork exists before mobilizing — the analysis requirement does not get softer just because the gate check does.
Practical bottom line
Build one standing package to the strictest bar (AT&T's), and Verizon becomes the easy day it is supposed to be. The certificate half — RF, fall protection, first aid theory, hazcom, battery, capstan, crane signal — is done online in a weekend with same-day verifiable certificates; keep the practical items with your competent person, keep the app access sorted the day before, and the mildest carrier stays mild.
